4、ltimategoalofsuchasystemistoautomaticallyandrobustlyconverttheimageorvideodataintoactionableinformation.Thispaperprovidesanoverviewofrecentadvancesincomputervisiontechniquesastheyapplytotheproblemofcivilinfrastructureconditionassessment.Inparticular,relevantresearchinthefieldsofcomputerv
5、ision,machinelearning,andstructuralengineeringarepresented.Theworkreviewedisclassifiedintotwotypes:inspectionapplicationsandmonitoringapplications.Theinspectionapplicationsreviewedincludeidentifyingcontextsuchasstructuralcomponents,characterizinglocalandglobalvisibledamage,anddetectingch
6、angesfromareferenceimage.Themonitoringapplicationsdiscussedincludestaticmeasurementofstrainanddisplacement,aswellasdynamicmeasurementofdisplacementformodalanalysis.Subsequently,someofthekeychallengesthatpersisttowardsthegoalofautomatedvision-basedcivilinfrastructureandmonitoringarepresen
