2、towhichrenewableenergysource(RES)technologiescanbeeffectivelyintegratedintothesesystemsdepends,toalargedegree,ontheconfigurationandcontrolofsuchexistinginfrastructure.Utilizationandoptimizationofexistingdieselgenerationisaccordinglyakeyconsiderationforan

3、ysuccessfulRESproposal.Thischapterexploresbothmodernandlegacydieseltechnologyandcontrol,asavailabletomaximizeRESpenetrationwithinahybriddieselislandednetwork.Dieselgeneratorsarerelativelyinexpen-sivetopurchase,offeringaproven,reliableandstablegeneration

4、source.Dieselgenerationisalsosupportedviatheeaseandavailabilityofbothsupplierengagementandtechnicalexpertise,servicesreadilyathandtoconsumers.Theirdownsidehasproventobethedieselfuelitself,givenbothvolatilecommoditypricinganddamagingenvironmentalemission

5、s.Theseissueshavecreatedoppor-tunityforalternativegenerationsources,andaswewillseenthroughoutthepro-ceedingchapters,theadventofbothavailableandcostcompetitiveREStechnologieshasgivenremotecommunitiesgenuinegenerationalternatives.REStechnologieswillbecome
