4、calinglawsofaquiteprofoundquantity:theentanglemententropyofgroundstates.Thisentropyofthereducedstateofasubregionoftenmerelygrowsliketheboundaryareaofthesubregion,andnotlikeitsvolume,insharpcontrastwithanexpectedextensivebehavior.SuchÒarealawsÓfortheentanglementent

5、ropyandrelatedquantitieshavereceivedconsiderableattentioninrecentyears.TheyemergeinseveralseeminglyunrelatedÞelds,inthecontextofblackholephysics,quantuminformationscience,andquantummany-bodyphysicswheretheyhaveimportantimplicationsonthenumericalsimulationoflattice

6、models.InthisColloquiumthecurrentstatusofarealawsintheseÞeldsisreviewed.Centerstageistakenbyrigorousresultsonlatticemodelsinoneandhigherspatialdimensions.Thedifferencesandsimilaritiesbetweenbosonicandfermionicmodelsarestressed,arealawsarerelatedtothevelocityofinfo

7、rmationpropagationinquantumlatticemodels,anddisorderedsystems,nonequilibriumsituations,andtopologicalentanglemententropiesarediscussed.Thesequestionsareconsideredinclassicalandquantumsystems,intheirgroundandthermalstates,foravarietyofcorrelationmeasures.AsigniÞcan
