4、tsattwoneighbouringhigh-altitudestations(Houxiaat2100ma.s.l.andGaoshanat3545ma.s.l.)intheTianshanMts.,northwestChina.Theobservedchangesofδ18O(δ2H)anddeuteriumexcesswithsurfaceairtemperature,altitudeandseasonhavebeenevaluatedtoderiveinformationontheeffectsofsubcloudevaporationandmoisturerecyclingont
5、heformationofprecipitationanditsisotopiccompositionunderaridclimaticconditions.Consultingthelong-termmonthlyaveragesof‘d’excessandtemperatureofthenearestGNIPstationWulumuqi,astrikingsimilaritywasfoundwiththeresultsofthetwohigh-altitudestationsconcerningtherelationbetween‘d’excessandtemperature.The‘
6、d’excess–temperatureplotoftheWulumuqidatashowsanhysteresiseffectwhichappearstosignifyseasonalchangesintheinterplaybetweensubcloudevaporationandmoisturerecycling.Finally,forthefirsttimeanegativealtitudegradientofthedexcesshasbeenfoundforallstationsincludingtwomoreGNIPstationsinnorthwestChinabutfarawa
