3、ryonetobelearnedthroughpersonalexperiment,andmanyrequiretoolsthatarebeyondmostindividualsandschools.So,mostpeopleincludingscientistscontactscienceviareadingandhearingaboutresultsratherthanverifyingtheexperimentsthemselves.Muchworse,mostchildrenaretau
4、ghtscienceasakindofhearsaycatechismof"thisistrueandmustbebelieved".Scientistsescapetoalargeextentfromsimplebeliefbyhavingdoneenoughrealexperimentation,modelingbuildingusingmathematicsthatsuggestsnewexperiments,etc.,torealizethatscienceismorelikemap-m
5、akingforrealnavigatorsthanbible-making:IOW,themapsneedtobeasaccurateaspossiblewithannotationsforerrorsandkindsofmeasurements,donebycompetentmap-makersratherthanstorytellers,andtheyarealwayssubjecttoimprovementandrediscovery:theynevercompletelyreprese
