3、asesofcosmicstructureformation.Herewereviewthephysicsofthe21cmtransition,focusingonprocessesrelevantathighredshifts,anddescribetheinsightstobegainedfromsuchobservations.Theseincludemeasuringthematterpowerspectrumatz∼50,observingtheformationofthecosmicwebandthe
4、firstluminoussources,andmap-pingthereionizationoftheintergalacticmedium.Theepochofreionizationisofparticularinterest,becauselargeHIIregionswillseedsubstantialfluctuationsinthe21cmbackground.Wealsodiscusstheexperimentalchallengesinvolvedindetectingthissignal,with
5、anemphasisontheGalacticandextragalacticforegrounds.Theseincreaserapidlytowardlowfrequenciesandareespeciallysevereforthehighestred-shiftapplications.Assumingthatthesedifficultiescanbeovercome,theredshifted21cmlinewillofferuniqueinsightintothehigh-redshiftUniverse,
