3、ing/disliking,andsituationalappropriatenesswithpost-testmeasuresofliking/disliking,consumptionandsatisfactioninspeci®ceatingsituations.Apre-testsurveyof115consumersassessedgeneralpreferences,expectedliking/disliking,andappropriatenessof22foodsandbeveragesin10dierentusesituations.Thedata
4、showedastrongassociationbetweenpre-testratingsoffoodappropriatenessandexpectedliking/disliking.Inthe®rstexperiment,subjectsreceivedanappro-priateorinappropriatefoodatalunchmeal.Inthesecond,subjectsreceivedafooditemineitheranappropriateorinappropriatesocialsituation.Liking/dislikingandco
5、nsumptionwerepoorlypredictedfromsimplefoodpreferencemeasures.Betterpredictionwasobtainedbyacombinationofpre-testvariables,butthevarianceaccountedforwaslow.Alikelyfactorin¯uencingtheresultswasthesubjects'pre-testassumptionsaboutthespeci®ccharacteristicsofthemealsituationandhowthesematche
6、dormismatchedtheactualmealconditions.Inthethirdexperiment,subjectsreceivedfooditemsthatvariedinsensoryqualityateitheranappro-priateorinappropriatemealtime.InadditiontothevariablesmeasuredinExperiments1and2,pre-testexpectedsensoryattri-butes,post-testsensoryattributes,judgmentsofwhethert
7、hefoodswere``betterorworsethanexpected''and``satisfaction''werecollected.Resultsshowedsigni®canteectsofbothfoodqualityandfoodappropriatenessonallpost-testvariables,andcon®rmedthehighdegreeofassociationbetweenappropriatenessandexpectedliking/dislikingratingsfoundpreviously.Foodp
