3、rea,whereexistingORmethodsandtechniqueshavebeenappliedtonewmodelsfornewproblems,tonewmodelsforoldproblemsthatregainedattentionandtoexistingmodelsforoldproblems.Inthelastcasewefindthatprogresshasbeenmadetoextendexistingresults,stimulatedbytheapparentneedforsuchextensions.Onemightnaturallystart

4、ahandbookonSCMwithadefinitionofthetermSupplyChainManagement.Wehavedecidedtoresistthistemptationastherearealreadytoomanycompetingdefinitions,andwedonotseevalueinattemptingtocreateanewdefinitionorsynthesizeonefromthecurrentcontenders.SCMhasdevelopedintoanotionthatcoversstrategic,tacticalandoperat

5、ionalmanagementissues.Wehavemadeanattempttostructuretheareabymeansofthechaptersinthishandbook.BynomeansdoweclaimtodealwithallmanagementissuescommonlyunderstoodasbeingpartofSupplyChainManagement.Nevertheless,wedobelievethatthishandbookcoversabroadrangeofSCMissuesthatlendthemselvestobeingformu

6、latedandanalysedwithmathematicalmodels.AsappropriateforanORhandbook,thisvolumefocusesprimarilyonsupplychainsasacontexttoapplyORmethodsandmodels.Asaconsequence,weareconcernedwiththedecision-makingprocessesthatariseinSCMandarederivedfrommanagerialandeconomicconsiderations.Inparticular,weinvest
