2、)Abstract-Adisplacement-basedversatileandelktivefiniteclementispresentedforlinearandgeometricandmaterialnonlinearanalysisofplatesandshells.Theelementisformulatedbyinterpolatingtheelementgeometryusingthemid-surfacenodalpointcoordinatesandmid-surfacenodalpointnormals.Atota
3、landanupdatedLagrangianformulationarepresented,thatallowverylargedisplacementsandrotations.Inlinearanalysisofplates,theelementreduoretowell-establishedplatebendingelementsbasedonclassicalplatetheory,whereasinliiranalysisofshellsandgeometricallynonliianalysisofplatesandsh
4、ellsbyuseoftheclementinessence+averygeneralshelltheoryisemployed.Theelementhasbeenimplementedasavariable-number-nodeselementandcanalsobeemployedasafullycompatibletransitionelementtomodelshellintersectionsandshell-solidregions.Inthepapervarioussamplesolutionsarepresentedt
