3、ers,towardsbuildingconsensusandlaunchingjointeffortstoaddressthechallengesweface.Intransitiontoadulthood,youngpeopleneedtoacquirethetoolstoliveafullandhealthylifebasedontheirexperienceandknowledge.Animportantelementinthistransitionistounderstandwhatsaferandresponsiblesexmeans.Itis

4、essentialtoempowerindividualstomakepositivechoicesandavoidtherisksassociatedwithunprotectedsex.Ihadthepleasuretoinitiatetheroundtableonsafersexforyoungpeopleinoctober2006.Thisround-tableactedasaninformalpartnershipbetweengovernments,civilsocietyandbusinesstodiscusswhatcanbedoneatE

5、uropeanleveltopromoteacommitmenttosafersexamongyoungpeople.Fromtheoutset,weidentifiedtheneedtocollectexistingdatawithintheEuropeanUnionrelatedtothesexualawarenessandbehaviourofyouth.Thankstotheinputoftwomembersoftheroundtable,OgilvyPublicRelationsandDurex,thispreliminaryreportofalr

6、eadyavailableinformationwaspro-duced.ThisreportmarksthefirststageinaprocesstocollectevidencewhichmayserveasthefoundationofabroaderEuropeancooperationinsharinggoodpracticeandaddingvaluetoongoingworkatanationallevel.Assuch,thereportrepresentsaveryvaluablestepinsynthesis,whichhopefull
