2、L.DEBERIN(1924)SUMMAR~tTheinterestshownintheprocessesofdiagenesisduringthepastfewyearshascausedseveralgeologiststoexaminethetruemeaningofthetermdiagenesis.Thepresentarticleincludesasurveyofthenecessarybibliographytojudgetheevolutionofthetermdiagenesisfromitsbirth,acenturyago,untilthepresen
3、ttime.Itzoversthecountries,theschoolsandthetraditions.Nonewtheoryisproposec,butonlyanobjectiveanalysisofthemaincontributionstothesubjectisgiven.INTRODUCTIONDuringthelastdecadeseveraloftheleadingideaswhichcommandourcomprehensionofthegeologicalphenomenahavebeenrestated.Forexample,theprincipa
4、lfactsaboutorogenicevolution,asconceivedsincethefruitfulconceptofthegeos2cncline,werereviewed(AuBoUIN,1959,1961).Similarly,theevolutionoftheconceptoffaciesfromitsoriginnearlyacenturyandahalfagowasre-examined(TEICHERr,1958;WEGMANN,1962;FRANKE,1963).Suchataskisperfectlyjustifiedifonetakesint
5、oaccounttheevolutionofthemeaningofwordsandtheinfluencethatthesewordsinthemselveshaveonourinterpretationofphenomena.Thepartplayedbyconcepts("Leitbilder")hasbeenauthoritativelyanalyzedbyWEGMANN(1958)inconnectionwiththeideasofWernerandHutton.Whenthetimecomes,itisnece~;sarytoreconsidercertaino
