3、hontheHudsonlimitandfollowotherstoreceivetheirtweets.Thegoalofthisriver.Twitterusersfollowothersorarefollowed.UnlikeonmostpaperistostudythetopologicalcharacteristicsofTwitteranditsonlinesocialnetworkingsites,suchasFacebookorMySpace,thepowerasanewmediumofinformationsharing.relationshipoffollow
4、ingandbeingfollowedrequiresnoreciproca-WehavecrawledtheentireTwittersiteandobtained41:7milliontion.Ausercanfollowanyotheruser,andtheuserbeingfolloweduserprofiles,1:47billionsocialrelations,4;262trendingtopics,neednotfollowback.BeingafolloweronTwittermeansthattheand106milliontweets.Initsfollowe
5、r-followingtopologyanalysisuserreceivesallthemessages(calledtweets)fromthosetheuserwehavefoundanon-power-lawfollowerdistribution,ashorteffec-follows.Commonpracticeofrespondingtoatweethasevolvedtivediameter,andlowreciprocity,whichallmarkadeviationfromintowell-definedmarkupculture:RTstandsforret
6、weet,’@’fol-knowncharacteristicsofhumansocialnetworks[28].Inordertolowedbyauseridentifieraddresstheuser,and’#’followedbyaidentifyinfluentialsonTwitter,wehaverankedusersbythenumberwordrepresentsahashtag.Thiswell-definedmarkupvocabularyoffollowersandbyPageRankandfoundtworankingstobesim-combinedwit
7、hastrictlimitof140charactersperpostingconve-ilar.Rankingbyretweetsdiffersfromtheprevioustworankings,niencesuserswithbrevityinexpression.Theretweetmechanismindicatingagapininfluenceinferredfromthenumberoffollowersempowersuserstospreadinformatio
