1、METHOD9023EXTRACTABLEORGANICHALIDES(EOX)INSOLIDS1.0SCOPEANDAPPLICATION1.1Thismethodistobeusedforthedeterminationoftotalextractableorganichalides-(EOX)asClinsolids.EOXisdefinedasthesumofthoseorganichalideswhichareextractedanddetectedbypyrolysis/microcoulometryund

2、ertheconditionsspecifiedinthismethod.Extractableorganichalidescontainingchlorine,bromine,oriodinearedetected.However,fluorinecontainingspeciesarenotdetectedbythismethod.1.2Thismethodhasbeenevaluatedforsolidwastes,soils,andsuspendedsolidsisolatedfromindustrialwas

3、tewater.1.3ThismethodisrecommendedforuseintheconcentrationrangefromtheMDLupto1000xMDL(seeSection9.1).1.4Thismethodisrestrictedtouseby,orunderthesupervisionof,analystsexperiencedintheoperationofapyrolysismicrocoulometerandintheinterpretationoftheresults.1.5Sincet

4、hismethoddoesnotidentifyindividualcomponents,itisadvisablethatcompoundspecifictechniquesbeemployedtodeterminetheindividualcomponentspresentinsamplesexhibitingsignificantEOXlevels,unlessthenatureofthesampleisalreadyknown.2.0SUMMARYOFMETHOD2.1A1-gramaliquotofsolid

5、sampleisextractedwithethylacetatebysonificationtoisolateorganichalides.A25µLaliquotoftheextractiseitherinjectedordeliveredbyboatinletintoapyrolysisfurnaceusingastreamofCO2/O2(orappropriatealternategasmixture)andthehydrogenhalide(HX)pyrolysisproductisdeterminedby

6、microcoulometrictitration.3.0INTERFERENCES3.1Methodinterferencesmaybecausedbycontaminants,reagents,glassware,andothersampleprocessinghardware.Allofthesematerialsmustberoutinelydemonstratedtobefreefrominterferencesundertheconditionsoftheanalysisbyrunningmethodbla

7、nks.3.1.1Glasswaremustbescrupulouslycleaned.Cleanallglasswareassoonaspossibleafterusebytreatingwithchromatecleaningsolution.Thisshouldbefollowedbydetergentwashinginhotwater.Rinsewithtapwateranddistilledwater,draindry,andheatinamufflefurnaceat400ECfor15to30minute
