2、containinginsolublecyanidecompounds.2.0SUMMARYOFMETHOD2.1Ifthewastesamplecontainssomuchsolid,orsolidsofsuchasizeastointerferewithagitationandhomogenizationofthesamplemixtureinthedistillationflask,orsomuchoilorgreaseastointerferewiththeformationofahomogeneousemulsion,thesamplemaybeextractedwithwa

3、teratpH10orgreater,andtheextractdistilledandanalyzedbyMethod9010.Samplesthatcontainfreewaterarefilteredandseparatedintoanaqueouscomponentandacombinedoilandsolidcomponent.Thenonaqueouscomponentmaythenbeextracted,andanaliquotoftheextractcombinedwithanaliquotofthefiltrateinproportiontothecompositio

4、nofthesample.Alternatively,thecomponentsmaybeanalyzedseparately,andcyanidelevelsreportedforeachcomponent.However,ifthesamplesolidsareknowntocontainsufficientlevelsofcyanide(about50µg/g)astobewellabovethelimitofdetection,theextractionstepmaybedeletedandthesolidsanalyzeddirectlybyMethod9010.Thisca

5、nbeaccomplishedbydilutingasmallaliquotofthewastesolid(1-10g)in500mLwaterinthedistillationflaskandsuspendingtheslurryduringdistillationwithamagneticstir-bar.3.0INTERFERENCES3.1PotentialinterferencesthatmaybeencounteredduringanalysisarediscussedinMethod9010.4.0APPARATUSANDMATERIALS4.1Extractor-Any
