1、METHOD0010MODIFIEDMETHOD5SAMPLINGTRAIN1.0SCOPEANDAPPLICATION1.1ThismethodisapplicabletothedeterminationofDestructionandRemovalEfficiency(DRE)ofsemivolatilePrincipalOrganicHazardousCompounds(POHCs)fromincinerationsystems(PHS,1967).Thismethodalsomaybeusedtodetermineparticulateemissionratesfromstationa

2、rysourcesasperEPAMethod5(seeReferencesatendofthismethod).2.0SUMMARYOFMETHOD2.1Gaseousandparticulatepollutantsarewithdrawnfromanemissionsourceatanisokineticsamplingrateandarecollectedinamulticomponentsamplingtrain.Principalcomponentsofthetrainincludeahigh-efficiencyglass-orquartz-fiberfilterandapacke

3、dbedofporouspolymericadsorbentresin.Thefilterisusedtocollectorganic-ladenparticulatematerialsandtheporouspolymericresintoadsorbsemivolatileorganicspecies.Semivolatilespeciesaredefinedascompoundswithboilingpoints>100EC.2.2Comprehensivechemicalanalysesofthecollectedsampleareconductedtodeterminetheconc

4、entrationandidentityoftheorganicmaterials.3.0INTERFERENCES3.1Oxidesofnitrogen(NOx)arepossibleinterferentsinthedeterminationofcertainwater-solublecompoundssuchasdioxane,phenol,andurethane;reactionofthesecompoundswithNOxinthepresenceofmoisturewillreducetheirconcentration.Otherpossibilitiesthatcouldres

5、ultinpositiveornegativebiasare(1)stabilityofthecompoundsinmethylenechloride,(2)theformationofwater-solubleorganicsaltsontheresininthepresenceofmoisture,and(3)thesolventextractionefficiencyofwater-solublecompoundsfromaqueousmedia.Useoftwoormoreionspercompoundforqualitativeandquantitativeanalysiscanov
