1、METHOD9090ACOMPATIBILITYTESTFORWASTESANDMEMBRANELINERS1.0SCOPEANDAPPLICATION1.1Method9090isintendedforuseindeterminingtheeffectsofchemicalsinasurfaceimpoundment,wastepile,orlandfillonthephysicalpropertiesofflexiblemembraneliner(FML)materialsintendedtocontainthem.Datafr

2、omthesetestswillassistindecidingwhetheragivenlinermaterialisacceptablefortheintendedapplication.2.0SUMMARYOFMETHOD2.1Inordertoestimatewaste/linercompatibility,thelinermaterialisimmersedinthechemicalenvironmentforminimumperiodsof120daysatroomtemperature(23+2EC)andat50+2

3、EC.IncaseswheretheFMLwillbeusedinachemicalenvironmentatelevatedtemperatures,theimmersiontestingshallberunattheelevatedtemperaturesiftheyareexpectedtobehigherthan50EC.Wheneverpossible,theuseoflongerexposuretimesisrecommended.Comparisonofmeasurementsofthemembrane'sphysic

4、alproperties,takenperiodicallybeforeandaftercontactwiththewastefluid,isusedtoestimatethecompatibilityofthelinerwiththewasteovertime.3.0INTERFERENCES(NotApplicable)4.0APPARATUSANDMATERIALSNOTE:Ingeneral,thefollowingdefinitionswillbeusedinthismethod:1.Sample-arepresentat

5、ivepieceofthelinermaterialproposedforusethatisofsufficientsizetoallowfortheremovalofallnecessaryspecimens.2.Specimen-apieceofmaterial,cutfromasample,appropriatelyshapedandpreparedsothatitisreadytouseforatest.4.1Exposuretank-Ofasizesufficienttocontainthesamples,withprov

6、isionsforsupportingthesamplessothattheydonottouchthebottomorsidesofthetankoreachother,andforstirringtheliquidinthetank.Thetankshouldbecompatiblewiththewastefluidandimpermeabletoanyoftheconstituentstheyareintendedtocontain.Thetankshallbeequippedwithameansformaintainingt

7、hesolutionatroomtemperature(23+2EC)and50+2ECandforpreventingevaporationofthesolution(e.g.,useacoverequippedwitharefluxcondenser,orsealthetankwithaTeflongasketanduseanairtightcover).Bothsidesofthelinermaterialshallbeexposedtothechemicalenvironment.Thepressureinsidetheta
