1、METHOD3040ADISSOLUTIONPROCEDUREFOROILS,GREASES,ORWAXES1.0SCOPEANDAPPLICATION1.1Thismethodisusedforthepreparationofsamplescontainingoils,greases,orwaxesforanalysisbyflameatomicabsorptionspectrometry(FLAA)orinductivelycoupledplasmaatomicemissionspectrometry(ICP-AES)forthefollowi
2、ngmetals:AntimonyCopperArsenicIronBariumLeadBerylliumManganeseCadmiumNickelChromiumVanadium1.2Thismethodisasolventdissolutionprocedure,notadigestionprocedure.Thisprocedurecanbeveryusefulintheanalysisofcrudeoil,butwithspentorusedoilhighinparticulatematerialitislesseffective;mos
3、tparticulatematerialisnotdissolved,andthereforetheanalysisisnota"total"metaldetermination.Becausethehighestpercentageofmetalsisexpectedtobecontainedintheparticulatematerial,oilanalysisusingMethod3040Awillnotprovideanadequateestimateofthetotalmetalsconcentration.Caution:Overhea
4、tingofoilsandsolventscanresultinanexplosionorfire,cautionshouldbetaken.1.3Thismethodisapplicableforthedissolutionofmulti-phasicaqueouswastescontainingeitheroils,greases,orwaxes.Ifawasteismulti-phasicitcanbedeterminedbyusingMethod3040Aincombinationwithoneoftheothersampleprepara
5、tionmethods.Caution:TheanalysisofsolventsinanICP-AESshouldonlybeconductedafterconsultationwiththemanufacturer.1.4ThismethodissuitableforconductinganalysesinsupportofTCLPdeterminationsifthepercentsolids,asconductedaccordingtotheproceduresspecifiedintheMethod1311,arebelow0.5%.2.
6、0SUMMARYOFMETHOD2.1Arepresentativesampleisdissolvedinanappropriatesolvent(e.g.,xylene,kerosene,ormethylisobutylketone).Organometallicstandardsarepreparedusingthesamesolvent,andthesamplesandstandardsareanalyzedbyFLAAorICP-AES.3.0INTERFERENCES3.1Dilutedsamplesanddilutedorganomet
