3、cipientsofpublichealthtooneofbeingactiveparticipantsinpublichealthpolicy-makingandaction.TheEuropeanenvironmentandhealthprocess,fromitsverybeginnings,recognizedthoseimportantprerequisitesandensuredthatallstakeholderssitatthetableandplayanappropriaterole.Withthat,thisproces
4、swasapioneeronceagain.Butyoumayexpectmetogiveyouawordofwisdomonwhereweshouldgoandfocusourattentioninthefuture.Iamnotafortuneteller,butevidencetellsusthatairquality,climatechange,thesafemanagementofchemicals,andsufficient,reliableandsafesourcesofwater,foodandenergyarethegre
5、atpublichealthchallengesoftodayandtomorrowinaworldmarkedbypopulationgrowth,urbanization,longevityandeconomicgrowthandprosperity.Itisalsoobviousthatthecoreresponsibilityofpublichealthistoensuresafe,equitableandhealthprotectingandpromotingconditionsinthisrapidlychangingworld
6、.Addressingthoseenvironmentaldeterminantsisamongthekeyinterventionsforpreventingcancer,cardiovascularandtheothernoncommunicablediseasesthatdominatethehealthagenda.Ontheenvironmentside,thedauntingtaskofunderstandingthechallengeofsustainabledevelopmentand“gettingitright”forf
7、uturegenerationsisthemostimportantquestionofall.Thisiswheretheenvironmentandhealthcometogetheragain.Andthisiswherewemustallcometogetherinunitywithourseeminglydiverserolesandresponsibilities.IwishHEALmanymoreyearsofgoodworkandfruitfulengagementwithWHO,andIwishyouall,ladiesa
