3、sultsareintendedforimmediatereferenceonly.Innowaydotheysubstituteanintroductorycourseinrealanalysis.Sydsaeter'sMathemat-icalAnalysisisanexcellentreferenceforeconomists.ThosewithastrongerbackgroundinMathematicsmaywanttouseRudin'sPrinciplesofMathematicalAnalysisinstead.Allintroductorytextbook

4、sonmicroeconomicscovermostofthematerialfoundinthesenotes,andindeedveryoftenmorethanthat.Studentsarethereforeencouragedtosatisfytheircuriositybyconsultingalternativesources.Rubinstein'soutstandingLectureNotesinMicroeconomicsforinstancearefreelyavailableonline.Bearinmindhoweverthatanysetofnot

5、esderivesasmuchofitsaddedvaluefromwhatitchoosestoleaveoutasfromwhatite ectivelycontains.Finally,whileinprincipleusableonastand-alonebasis,thesenotesareprimarilydesignedtosupportlectures.Attendinglecturesshouldthereforehelpyouimproveyourunderstandingofthematerialcoveredinthenotes.Thesenotesa

6、reorganizedasfollows.Section2isdevotedtothestudyoftheconsumer.Section2.1elaboratesageneralframeworkinwhichtostudyissuesrelatedtoconsumption.Section2.2illustratessomeofthemostimportantapplicationsoftheframework:intertem-poralconsumption(2.2.1),consumptionunderuncertainty(2.2.2),aswellaslabor
