2、tandards.Seismicupgradingandreinforcementprotectionaretwoofthemajorissuesrequiringretrofits.Additionally,manyagingstructuralmembersnolongerprovidetheloadcapacityoftheoriginaldesignbecauseofconcretecracking,steelcorrosion,orotherdamage.Inthisresearch,severalretrofit
3、methodsforincreasingtheaxialloadcapacityofreinforcedconcretecolumnsweretestedandanalyzed.Severalcurrentlyappliedmethodsforretrofittingcolumnsincludeconcretejacketing,steeljacketing,andfiberreinforcedpolymer(FRP)jacketing.Allthreemethodshavebeenshowntoeffectivelyini
4、ncreasetheaxialloadcapacityofcolumns.Inaddition,anewreinforcementproduct,PrefabricatedCageSystem(PCS)reinforcement,wasintroducedasapossiblereinforcementoptionforconcretejacketretrofitapplications.ProjectScopeThreeretrofitreinforcementoptions,concretejacketing,steel
5、jacketing,andFRPwrapping,wereexperimentallyanalyzedintheresearch.Threedifferentmaterialsprovidedreinforcementfortheconcretejackets:arebarcagewithspiraltransversereinforcement,weldedwirefabric(WWF),andtheaforementionedPCS.Allspecimensweretestedunderaxialcompressionl
6、oadingonly.Appliedloadanddisplacementweremeasuredforallspecimensthroughouttestinguntilfailure.Additionally,responseoftheloadedspecimenswasobservedanddocumentedthroughoutthetesting.BehaviorofthenewlyintroducedPCSreinforcementwascomparedwithtraditionallyusedretrofita
7、pplicationsalreadycurrentlyutilizedinthestructuralengineeringindustry.Advantagesanddisadvantagesofeachretrofitmeasurewereidentified.Additionally,modelconceptswerepresentedfortheresponseofconcretejacketretrofittedcolumnsbasedontheworkofManderetal.(1988)andCai(1987).
