2、nunquestionableinfluenceovertheselectionofthematerialthateventuallyappearsinthedream.Butfirst,evenattheriskofseemingtointerruptourprogress,Ishalltakeapreliminaryglanceattheprocessesbywhichtheinterpretationofdreamsisaccomplished.Idonotdenythatthebestwayofexplainingthem,andofconvincingthecriticofthei
3、rreliability,wouldbetotakeasingledreamasanexample,todetailitsinterpretation,asIdid(inChapterII)inthecaseofthedreamofIrma'sinjection,butthentoassemblethedream-thoughtswhichIhaddiscovered,andfromthemtoreconstructtheformationofthedream-thatistosay,tosupplementdream-analysisbydream-synthesis.Ihavedonet
4、hiswithseveralspecimensformyowninstruction;butIcannotundertaketodoithere,asIampreventedbyanumberofconsiderations(relatingtothepsychicmaterialnecessaryforsuchademonstration)suchasanyright-thinkingpersonwouldapprove.Intheanalysisofdreamstheseconsiderationspresentlessdifficulty,forananalysismaybeincom
5、pleteandstillretainitsvalue,evenifitleadsonlyalittlewayintothestructureofthedream.Idonotseehowasynthesis,tobeconvincing,couldbeanythingshortofcomplete.Icouldgiveacompletesynthesisonlyofthedreamsofsuchpersonsasareunknowntothereadingpublic.Since,however,neuroticpatientsaretheonlypersonswhofurnishmewi
