4、cipitates.Silverprecipitatedasdiscretecolloidalaggregatesatthecellsurfaceandoccasionallyinthecytoplasm.NeitherCd2+norCu2+providedenoughelectronscatteringtoidentifythelocationofsorption.TheaffinityseriesforbacterialremovalofthesemetalsdecreasedintheorderAg>La>Cu>Cd.Theresultsindicatethatbacter
5、ialcellsarecapableofbindinglargequantitiesofdifferentmetals.Adsorptionequationsmaybeusefulfordescribingbacterium-metalinteractionswithmetalssuchasCdandCu;however,thisapproachmaynotbeadequatewhenprecipitationofmetalsoccurs.Thefateoftoxicmetalliccationsinthesoilenvironmentdependslargelyontheint
6、eractionsofthesemetalswithinorganicandorganicsurfaces.Theextenttowhichametalliccationinteractswiththesesurfacesdeterminestheconcentrationofmetalinsolutionand,consequently,thepotentialformovementintogroundwateroruptakebyplants.Aconsiderableamountofworkhasbeendonetoevaluatetheadsorptionorcomple
