2、ndTaskofThisCourseBiochemistrymaybeconsideredasthedescriptionoflifeatthemolecularlevel.Thechemicalandphysicalnatureofstructuresandfunctionswithinlivingcellsisstudied.Thiscourseallowsstudentstodevelopanunderstandingofthemajorclassesofbiochemicalcompoundsfoundinlivingorganismsandthemetabo

3、lismofthesecompounds.Studyofbiochemistryiscentraltostudiesinbiology,andinparticularisrelatedtoplantandmammalianphysiology,microbiology,genetics,cellbiologyandmolecularbiology.Aseriesofpracticalclassesisintegratedwiththelecturestoallowstudentstofurtherdevelopconceptscoveredinthelectures,

4、andalsotobecomefamiliarwithuseofmaterialsandequipmentcommonlyusedinbiochemistrylaboratories.ⅢTheObjectivesofThisCourseOncompletionofthiscoursestudentswillbeableto:(1)demonstrateaknowledgeofthemajorclassesofbiochemicalcompounds,includingcarbohydrates,lipidsandproteins;(2)understandanddes

5、cribetheactionofenzymesandtheirapplicationinthemetabolismofcarbohydrates,lipidsandproteins;(3)demonstratefamiliaritywiththeintegrationofmetabolicpathwaysinanorganism;(4)demonstrateanawarenessofthedifferentmetabolicprocesseswhichoccurindifferentspecies(includinganimals,plantsandmicroorga

6、nisms);(5)demonstrateanawarenessoftheapplicationsofbiochemistryincontemporaryscience,particularlyinbiotechnology;(6)demonstratefamiliaritywitharangeoflaboratorytechniquesusedtoidentify,quantifyandstudybiochemicalsubstances;(7)carryoutsimplequalitativebiochemicaltests,andquantitativereli
