2、issectionisintendedtoinformtheUniversity’sprofessionaldesignconsultantsoftheUniversity’sexpectationsandrequirementsforinstructionalspaces.BackgroundClassroomSupportServices(CSS)isadepartmentofUndergraduateAcademicAffairs.CSSisresponsiblefor,andmanages,theUniversityofWa

3、shingtonSeattlecampusgeneraluseclassrooms.ThedesignguidelinesforclassroomsthatfollowweredevelopedbyCSSandreviewedandendorsedbyavarietyoffacultycommitteesincludingtheFacultySenate’sCouncilonUniversityFacilitiesandtheCouncilonEducationalTechnology.ProgrammingThefollowing

4、DesignGoalshavebeenestablishedforUniversityofWashingtoninstructionalrooms:1)Toprovidethemosteffectivelearningenvironmentsbasedondesiredpedagogy;2)Toprovideanenvironmentdesignedtoenhanceastudent’sabilitytounderstand,observeandparticipateinactivelearning;3)Toprovideanenv

5、ironmentthatiscomfortableforstudentsandinstructorsaswellasdurable,reliable,andeasytomaintain;and,4)Toprovidearoomthatiseasyforfacultyandstudentequipmentoperatorstousethroughstandardizationofcontrols,layouts,andequipment.TheFEPG(Rev.10/94)wasdevelopedbyinstitutionsofpub

6、lichighereducationintheStateofWashingtontoassistinplanningandevaluatingtheneedforcampusfacilities.Thesectiondevotedtoclassroomsissummarizedhere.ThecompleteGuideisavailablefromUW’sCapitalandSpacePlanningOffice(CASPO).1)ClassroomsandClassroomSupportSpacesaregenerallyinst

7、itution-wideresources.Theterm“classroom”includesnotonlygeneralpurposeclassrooms,butalsoauditoria,seminarrooms,breakoutroomsandotherroomsusedprimarilyforschedulednon-laboratoryinstruction.Classroomfacilitiesincludeanysupportroomsthatservetheclassroomactivity.2)Averagest
