1、TheUseofCorporaintheVocabularyClassroomIntroductionLexicalcompetencerecentlyhasbeenidentifiedtobethemostsignificantpredictortogenerallanguageability(Carter&McCarthy,1988:97);however,itisalsoidentifiedbymostlearnerstobeoneofthebiggestchallengesoflanguagelearning(Coady&
2、Huckin,1997:1;Cobb,1999). Fortunately,withtheadventoftechnology,anewviewoflanguagelearningandteachinghasemerged;attemptstointegratecomputersastoolsinlanguageclassroomsandfacilitatethelearninghavebeenmade.Thispapersuggestslanguagecorporacanenhancethequalityofvocabulary
3、teachingandlearninginsecondorforeignlanguageclassrooms. Bypresentingbenefitsoflanguagecorporatothepedagogy,itishopedthatthispapercanbehelpfultobothteachersandlearnerswhoarestrugglingtosearchforanefficientwayofteachingandlearningvocabulary.WhatareCorpora?Corpora,plural

6、gagedinlanguagelearning,teaching,orresearch;languagelearnersorevennativespeakersmayfinditusefultoassistacademicwritingorlexicalknowledge(Qiao,1995);teacherscanutilizetheauthenticcollectionsofdataasclassroommaterialsforESL,EFL,orEAP(EnglishforAcademicPurpose)learners;l
