2、(EFL)taughtbyforeigninstructors.]Allcourseswillbeheldonceaweekforthewholeterm.ART:TalkingAboutArt.(NicholasKingston-Smith)Whenhumanbeingsproduceobjectsorgesturesthatwethinkofas“art”,whataretheydoing?InthisveryinteractiveEnglishcourse,participantswillstudyphotosofartworks(jewelry,sculpture,pa

3、inting,ceramics)andpushthemselvesandeachothertoseewhatisreallythere.NickKingston-Smithwillgiveshorttalks,setupgroupdiscussionsinEnglishandlaterarrangecameraassignmentsthatchallengestudentsto“see”inafreshanddeeperway.Weaimtoenableparticipantstoapproachthetasksintheirownlivesinamorethoughtfula

5、dworkingroupstoarguetheprosandconsofarangeofissues.Manyoftheissueswillberelatedtotheearthsciencesandenvironmentalstudies.TheemphasisintheclasswillbeonsharpeningreasoningskillsanddevelopingtheoralEnglishofargument,exchangeandpersuasion.StudentsmuststartwithsomepreviousabilitytousegeneralEngli

7、fgeologyimportantintheircareers.Theprimaryobjectiveistogivestudentsgreaterconfidenceintalkingaboutgeologicalmatters,andsecondarilytobuildgreaterwillingnesstousegeologicaltextbooksandarticlesinEnglish.Gradingwillreflectparticipationandtheresultsofse
