4、icationfromthe eldofbioinformatics,whichwasdemonstratedattheHPC-ChallengeofSupercomputing2002atBaltimore.ThisapplicationhasbeenadaptedtoberunonanheterogeneouscomputationalGridbymeansofPACX-MPI.Theanalysisandoptimisationisbasedontracedriventools,mainlyDi

5、memasandVampir.AllthesemethodologiesandtoolsarebeingextendedintheframeoftheDAMIENISTproject.1IntroductionTheecientexecutionofacomplexscienti capplicationinadistributed,het-erogeneousenvironmentwhereresourcesaresharedwithothersisachallengeforthedevelope

6、randuser.TheDAMIEN[4,7]project(DistributedApplicationsandMiddlewareforIndustrialUseofEuropeanNetworks)aimstoproduceatool-chaintosupportdevelopersandscienti cusersofGrid-applications.Toachievethisgoal,newtoolsarecreatedaswellasexistingandwidelyacceptedto
