2、ftheradiativetransfertheory.Itpresentsthehydrodynamicderivationoftheradiativetransferequationandtheprinciplesofinvariance.Theauthorsexamineindetailvariousquasi-exactsolutionsoftheradiativetransferequation,suchasthematrixoperatormethod,thediscreteordinatemethod,andtheMonteCarlomethod.Atho

3、roughtreatmentoftheradiativeperturbationtheoryisgiven.Thebookalsopresentsvarioustwo-streammethodsfortheapproximatesolutionoftheradiativetransferequation.Theinteractionofradiationwithmatterisdiscussedaswellasthetransmissioninindividualspectrallinesandinbandsoflines.Itformulatesthetheoryof

4、gaseousabsorptionandanalyzesthenormalvibrationsoflinearandnon-linearmolecules.ThebookpresentstheSchr¨odingerequationanddescribesthecomputationoftransitionprobabilities,beforeexaminingthemathematicalformulationofspectrallineintensities.ArigoroustreatmentofMiescatteringisgiven,includingRay

5、leighscatteringasaspecialcase,andtheimportantefficiencyfactorsforextinction,scatteringandabsorptionarederived.PolarizationeffectsareintroducedwiththehelpofStokesparameters.Thefundamentalsofremotesensingapplicationsofradiativetransferarepresented.Problemsofvaryingdegreesofdifficultyareinclu
