2、)inthepreparationofresolesisdescribedandhowitcanbecontrolledandcomparedwiththetypicalresoleresinpreparations.Itprovidesavisionintothepreparationofmineralwool/glassinsulationresinsandwaystominimizetheundesirabledimer/oligomerformation.Differentreactivitiesofthecommo
3、nmethylolatedphenolsandphenolareranked,andtheirresultingreactivitiesdifferdependingonwhetherformaldehydeispresentorabsentinthemethylolatedphenols.UseoforganicbasessuchastriethylamineindicatesthatamuchfasterreactionofFwithPoccursascomparedtotheuseofNaOHundersimilarc
4、onditions,andprimarilyorthodirectedintermediate2-methylolphenolisobtained.FurthermoremethyleneetherlinkagesresultinthefinalTEAresole.BisphenolF,thesimplestoligomerofphenolicnovolak,continuestoelicitconsiderableactivityrelatedtoimprovedandeconomicalsyntheticpreparati
5、vemethods.Aunique,novelnovolakprocessinvolvingheterogeneous/twophasemethodknownasthePAPSprocessisdiscussedalongwithseveralfeaturesandfavorablecomparisonswithexistingnovolaks.FeaturessuchasnarrowMWD,highyield,lowfreephenol,andrapidreactionfavorthisnewprocess.Current
