2、whereitrelatesdirectlytoteachingpractice.Itismyhopethatthis article willprovideteacherswithanoverviewofsomeofthemostimportantissuestobeconsideredwhenteachingvocabularyandpossiblyanswersome,ifnot many, ofthequestionsteachersmayhave inregardtoteachingvocabulary.Withintheconte

3、xtofthisarticle,anyreferencetovocabularyincludesthebaseformofaword,itsinflectionsandderivatives,andlexicalphrasesor chunks,whichconstituteamajorportionoftheEnglishlanguage(Lewis:1993,97). Ihavechosentoincludelexicalphrasesinthedefinitionbecause,likewords,theycanoftenbetaugh

4、tasasingleunitofmeaning.Whatvocabularytoteach?NeedsAnalysisHowdoyoucurrentlydecidewhatvocabularytoteach?WhenIfirststartedtoteachIrememberwhatapanicIwasintryingtodecidewhattoteach.Myonlyguideforteachingvocabularyatthattimewasmyhighschoolteacherswhousedtohandoutavocabularylis
