3、fixed.Whilefindingandfixingbugsdiscoveredintestingisnecessarytoassurereliability,abetterwayistodeveloparobust,highqualityproductthroughallofthestagesofthesoftwarelifecycle.Thatis,thereliabilityofthedeliveredcodeisrelatedtothequalityofalloftheprocessesandproductsofsoftwaredevelopment;there
4、quirementsdocumentation,thecode,testplans,andtesting.Softwarereliabilityisnotaswelldefinedashardwarereliability,buttheSoftwareAssuranceTechnologyCenter(SATC)atNASAisstrivingtoidentifyandapplymetricstosoftwareproductsthatpromoteandassessreliability.ThispaperdiscusseshowNASAprojects,inconju
5、nctionwiththeSATC,areapplyingsoftwaremetricstoimprovethequalityandreliabilityofsoftwareproducts.Reliabilityisaby-productofquality,andsoftwarequalitycanbemeasured.Wewilldemonstratehowthesequalitymetricsassistintheevaluationofsoftwarereliability.Weconcludewithabriefdiscussionofthemetricsbei
