2、00133Rome,ItalyABSTRACT:Smallthermoplasticpartsmaybeefficientlymouldedbymeansofalaserassistedmouldingprocess.Asemi-transparentmouldisusedcombinedwithadiodelasersourcetodirectlyshapepelletsorshreds.Averylowholdingpressureisappliedandnomouldheatingsystemisrequi
3、red;thereforethesizeofthemouldingsystemissmallaswellasthesizeofthemould.Inordertoevaluatethemouldabilityofdifferentthermoplasticmaterials,mouldingtestswerecarriedoutonacrylonitrile–butadiene–styrene(ABS),highdensitypolyethylene(HDPE),polycarbonate(PC),polypro
4、pylene(PP),andpolystyrene(PS).Asinglepelletwasmouldedatatimetoproducethindisks,densitymeasurementsanddifferentialscanningcalorimetry(DSC)werecarriedout.Toshowtheprocesscapabilities,ascrewwasmouldedinHDPE,fromapieceofacalenderedsheet.KEYWORDS:diodelaser,thermo
