3、ogies.ThisneedhasfacilitatedAccepted30September2008theincreasingpenetrationofdistributedgeneration(DG)technologiesandprimarilyofrenewableenergysources(RES).Theextensiveuseofsuchenergysourcesintoday’selectricitynetworkscanKeywords:indisputablyminimizethethreatofglobalwarmingandclimatec

4、hange.However,thepoweroutputofPowergenerationtheseenergysourcesisnotasreliableandaseasytoadjusttochangingdemandcyclesastheoutputfromDistributedgenerationthetraditionalpowersources.ThisdisadvantagecanonlybeeffectivelyovercomebythestoringoftheEnergystorageexcesspowerproducedbyDG-RES.The

5、refore,inorderforthesenewsourcestobecomecompletelyElectricitystoragereliableasprimarysourcesofenergy,energystorageisacrucialfactor.Inthiswork,anoverviewofthecurrentandfutureenergystoragetechnologiesusedforelectricpowerapplicationsiscarriedout.Mostofthetechnologiesareinusetodaywhileoth

6、ersarestillunderintensiveresearchanddevelopment.Acomparisonbetweenthevarioustechnologiesispresentedintermsofthemostimportanttechnologicalcharacteristicsofeachtechnology.Thecomparisonshowsthateachstoragetechnologyisdifferentintermsofitsidealnetworkapplicationenvironmentandenergystorage
