3、fNiTiforenhancingcavitationerosionresistance.Inthisstudy,NiTipowderwaspreplacedontheAISI316Lsubstrateandmeltedwithahigh-powerCWNd:YAGlaser.Withappropriatelaserprocessingparameters,analloyedlayerofafewhundredmicrometersthickwasformedandfusionbondedtot
4、hesubstratewithouttheformationofabrittleinterface.EDSanalysisshowedthatthelayercontainedFeasthemajorconstituentelementwhiletheXRDpatternsofthesurfaceshowedanausteniticstructure,similartothatof316stainlesssteel.Thecavitationerosionresistanceofthemodifi
5、edlayer(316-NiTi-Laser)couldreachabout29timesthatofAISI316Lstainlesssteel.Theimprovementcouldbeattributedtoamuchhighersurfacehardnessandelasticityasrevealedbyinstrumentednanoindentationtests.Amongvarioustypesofsamples,thecavitationerosionresistancewa
6、srankedindescendingorderas:NiTiplate>316-NiTi-Laser>316-NiTi-TIG>AISI316L,where316-NiTi-TIGstandsforsamplessurfacedwiththetungsteninertgas(TIG)processusingNiTiwire.Thoughthelaser-surfacedsamplesandtheTIG-surfacedsampleshadsimilarindentationproperties
7、,theformerexhibitedahighererosionresistancemainlybecauseofamorehomogeneousalloyedlayerwithmuchlessdefects.Inboththelaser-surfacedandTIG-surfacedsamples,thesuperelasticbehaviortypicalofausteniticNiTiwasonlypartiallyretainedandthesuperiorcavitationeros
