2、rmstartedin1978.Thereisanongoingdebateaboutwhetherthisperformanceisdrivenmainlybyproductivitygrowthorbyfactoraccumulation.Butfewpaststudiestakenhumancapitalintoaccount,andthuscontainedanomissionbias.Inthispaper,weconstructameasureofChina’shumancapitalst
3、ockover1952–1999andemployitinourgrowthaccountingexercise.Wefindthat,first,inChina,theaccumulationofhumancapitalwasquiterapidanditcontributedsignificantlytogrowthandwelfare;second,afterincorporatinghumancapital,thegrowthoftotalfactorproductivity(TFP)stil
4、lplayedapositiveroleinGDPgrowthinthereformperiod,whileitwasnegativeintheprereformperiod.TheseresultsarerobustchangesinlaborsharesinGDPandindepreciationrates.Animplicationisthatahighpriorityshouldbegiventohumancapitalaccumulationandproductivitygrowth,ifC
