4、eterminedbythedifferentprocedures,thenaturalfrequenciesandvibrationmodesarethenexaminedindetails.Numericalresultsshowthataconvergentinitialshapecanbefoundrapidlybythetwo-loopiterationmethod,areasonableinitialshapecanbedeterminedbyusingthelinearcomputation

5、procedure,andalotofcomputationeffortscanthusbesaved.Thereareonlysmalldifferencesingeometryandprestressdistributionbetweentheresultsdeterminedbylinearandnonlinearcomputationprocedures.However,fortheanalysisofnaturalfrequencyandvibrationmodes,significantdif

6、ferencesinthefundamentalfrequenciesandvibrationmodeswilloccur,andthenonlinearitiesofthecable-stayedbridgeresponseappearonlyinthemodesdeterminedonbasisoftheinitialshapefoundbythenonlinearcomputation.2.IntroductionRapidprogressintheanalysisandconstructionof

7、cable-stayedbridgeshasbeenmadeoverthelastthreedecades.Theprogressismainlyduetodevelopmentsinthefieldsofcomputertechnology,highstrengthsteelcables,orthotropicsteeldecksandconstructiontechnology.Sincethefirstmoderncable-stayedbridgewasbuiltinSwedenin1955,th

8、eirpopularityhasrapidlybeenincreasingallovertheworld.Becauseofitsaestheticappeal,economicgroundsandeaseoferection,thecable-stayedbridgeisconsideredasthemostsuitableconstructiontypeforspansrangingfrom200toabout1000m.
