3、m,includingconductionalongtheblindslats.ThelocalconvectiveNusseltnumberdistributionswerefoundtocomparewellwithpublishedexperimentaldataforanaluminumblind.Also,therewasgoodqualitativeagreementwithtemperatureandflowfieldvisualizationphotographs.Theresultsshowthat,
4、overawiderangeofRayleighnumbers,analuminumvenetianblindcanhaveastrongeffectontheheattransferratefromtheindoorwindowglazing.Dependinguponthespecificconditions,theaverageconvectiveheattransferratecaneitherincreaseordecrease.However,forallcasesstudied,theblindwasfo
5、undtosubstantiallyreducetheradiativeheattransferratefromthewindow,evenwhentheslatswerefullyopen.INTRODUCTIONWindowshadingdevicesareusedinbuildingsprimarilytoprovideanaestheticallypleasingmeansofcontrollinglightingconditionsandoccupantprivacy.Inadditiontotheseint
6、endedfunctions,ashadealsoaffectsthethermalperformanceofafenestration.Shadingdevices,suchasvenetianblinds,affectthefreeconvectiveandradiativeheattransferratesattheindoorglaz-ingsurfaceandcanhaveasubstantialinfluenceontheoverallheattransferratethroughthefen-estrat
7、ion.Atpresent,thecomplexthermalinteractionbetweenavenetianblindandanadjacentwindowisnotwellunderstood.Anumericalsolutionispresentedofthisinteractionforsummernighttimeconditions(i.e.,fornoheatingoftheblindbysolarradiation).Apreviousstudythatiscloselyrelatedtothec
8、urrentworkhasbeendonebyMachinetal.(1998).Inthatexperimentalstudy,analuminumvenetianblindwasplacednexttoaheatedisothermalaluminumplate,whichapproximatedthecenter-of-gl
