3、presented.BottomLine：Theinformation-servicesindustryisaconglomerateofseveraldifferentsectorswithverydifferentprospects.Printingandpublishingisinmanywaysanold-economysectorthatisadaptingtothenewinformationageandwillcontinuetofacechallengesinthenearterm.Incontrast,telecommu
4、nicationsandITservices,whicharethesumsofsoftwarepublishingandinformationanddata-processingservices,arecutting-edge,new-economysectors.Althoughtheyaresufferinggrowingpains,theiroutlooksremainbright.Informationservicesreboundedin2004,withrealrevenuesup4.2%,followingatrivial
5、increasein2003.Prospectsremainpositive,asGlobalInsightforecasts4.3%annualgrowththroughtheendof2008.Employmenttrendeddownwardinthepast,shedding6.5%oftheworkforcein2002and5.8%in2003.Thetrendshouldleveloutinthenearterm,withemploymentgainingabout1.0%annuallyfor2006-08.Theprin
6、tingindustryshowedmixedfinancialresultsduringthefirstquarterof2006.ThetopfiveNorthAmericanprintingandrelated-activitycorporationsimprovedsales5.1%inthefirstquarterof2005.Publishingtellsadifferentstory:year-to-datethroughMay2006,overallpublish-ingoutputgrew4.5%fromyear-ago
