3、etheconsumingmarketshavenotmoved,thishasputanincreasingburdenonthedistributionoperationsofsuchcompanies.Companieshavecentralizedwarehouseoperationsinfew,butoftenlargefacilitiesresponsiblefordistributingproductsoveralargeregion.Managingefficiencyandeffe
4、ctiveness(service)isagreatchallengeformanagersofsuchfacilities.Asaresult,theyfeelagreatneedtobenchmarkwarehouseoperations,notonlytheirown,butalsotheircompetitors’.However,assessingtheperformanceofadistributionfacilityisatrickybusiness.Evenafterhavingvi
5、sitedalargenumberofthem,itisstilldifficulttotellafteravisit,whetherthiswasabest-inclassoperation,justabove-average,orevenrelativelypoorperforming.Nevertheless,evenshorttourvisitscanrevealalotofinformationtothetrainedeye.Thispaperproposesamethodtohelpma
6、nagersgettingmoreinformationfromtourvisits,throughasimpleandrapidassessmentform.Theformshouldbefilledoutimmediatelyafterthevisit.Themajorfunctionsofawarehousearetostoreproductsinordertomakeanassortmentforcustomers,toassemblecustomerorders,sometimestoad
