5、ediedwithin2weeksfromacuteencephalitis.Incontrast,STS/Amicewereshowntobepartiallyresistant,withamortalityrateof30%,longersurvivaltimesandlowerratesofviralproduction.Themortalityrates,survivaltimesandviraltitersofF,hybridsandtheRIstrainsvaried,suggestinginvolvementofmultiplegenes.STS/A,F,hyb
6、ridandRImicesurvivingtheacuteinfectionoccasionallydevelopedsevereparaparesisabout1monthpost-infection.Inthesemice,vacuolardegeneration,astrocytosis,theabsenceofperivascularcuffingandminimaldemyelinationwerefoundinthecentralnervoussystem.Noinfectiousviruscouldberecoveredfromthesemice.Althoug
7、htheparalysisofdelayedonsetwaslimitedtoSTS/A,F,hybridandeightofthe13RIstrains,theincidencevariedsignificantlyamongtheRIstrains.TheseresultsmaysuggestthatJHMV-inducedlatediseaseisalsoundermultifactorialcontrol.ThepathogenesisofJHMVinfectionisdiscussed.Key
