3、fthiswastefractionisitsbiotransformation,duetothecomplexityoforganicmaterial.Therefore,thefirststepmustbeitsphysical,chemicalandbiologicalpretreatmentforbreakingcomplexmoleculesintosimplemonomers,toincreasesolubilizationoforganicmaterialandimprovetheefficiencyoftheanaerobic
4、treatmentinthesecondstep.Thispaperdescribeschemicalpretreatmentbasedonlimeaddition(Ca(OH)2),inordertoenhancechemicaloxygendemand(COD)solubi-lization,followedbyanaerobicdigestionoftheOFMSW.Laboratory-scaleexperimentswerecarriedoutincompletelymixedreactors,1Lcapacity.Optim
5、alconditionsforCODsolubilizationinthefirststepofpretreatmentwere62.0mEqCa(OH)2/Lfor6.0h.Undertheseconditions,11.5%oftheCODwassolubilized.TheanaerobicdigestionefficiencyoftheOFMSW,withandwithoutpretreatment,wasevaluated.Thehighestmethaneyieldunderanaerobic3digestionofthepret
