4、treatmentinthesecondstep.Thispaperdescribeschemicalpretreatmentbasedonlimeaddition(Ca(OH)2),inordertoenhancechemicaloxygendemand(COD)solubi-lization,followedbyanaerobicdigestionoftheOFMSW.Laboratory-scaleexperimentswerecarriedoutincompletelymixedreactors,1Lcapacity.Optim

5、alconditionsforCODsolubilizationinthefirststepofpretreatmentwere62.0mEqCa(OH)2/Lfor6.0h.Undertheseconditions,11.5%oftheCODwassolubilized.TheanaerobicdigestionefficiencyoftheOFMSW,withandwithoutpretreatment,wasevaluated.Thehighestmethaneyieldunderanaerobic3digestionofthepret

6、reatedwastewas0.15mCH4/kgvolatilesolids(VS),172.0%ofthecontrol.UnderthatconditionthesolubleCODandVSremovalwere93.0%and94.0%,respectively.Theresultshaveshownthatchemicalpretreatmentwithlime,followedbyanaer-obicdigestion,providesthebestresultsforstabilizingtheOFMSW.Ó2007El
