3、rviceload,therebyraisingthebending,shear,andtorsionacapacityoftheconcreteincompressioncanbeefficientlyutilizedacrosstheentiredepthoftheconcretesectionswhenallloadsactonthestructure.Suchanimposedlongitudinalforceiscalledaprestressingforce,i.e.,acompressiveforcethatprestressest

4、hesectionsalongthespanofthestructuralelementpriortotheapplicationofthetransversegravitydeadandliveloadsortransienthorizontalliveloads.Thetypeofprestressesingforceinvolved,togetherwithitsmagnitude,aredeterminedmainlyonthebasisofthetypeofsystemtobeconstructedandthespanlengthand

5、slendernessdesired.Sincetheprestressingforceisappliedlongitudinallyalongorparalleltotheaxisofthemember,theprestressingprincipleinvolvediscommonlykNownaslinearprestressing.Circularprestressing,usedinliquidcontainmenttanks,pipes,andpressurereactorvessels,essentiallyfollowsthesa

6、mebasicprinciplesasdoeslinearprestressing,Thecircumferentialhoop,or”hugging”stressonthecylindricalorsphericalstructure,neutralizesthetensilestressesattheouterfibersofthecurvilinearsurfacebytheinternalcontainedpressure.Itisplainthatpermanentstressesintheprestressedstructuralme
