3、stryisoftensynonymouswithmea-surementsinbiologicalsamples,typicallyinsupportofinvestigationsofdrug2metabolismandpharmacokinetics.Biologicalmaterialsandpharmaceuticalproductsareverycomplexmixtures.Theyoftencontainproteins,salts,acids,basesandnumerousorganiccompoundsthatmaybesimilartotheanalyt

4、eofinterest.Furthermore,theanalytesoftenexistatlowconcentrationinthesesamples.Despitesignificantadvancesinthedevelop-mentofhighlyefficientanalyticalinstrumentsfortheend-pointdeterminationofanalytesinbiologicalsamplesandpharmaceuticalproducts,apre-treatmentstepisusuallynecessarytoextractandis

5、olatetheanalytesofinterestfromcomplexmatri-ces.Thegoalofsamplepreparationistoeliminateinterferingcompoundsfromthematrixusingaminimumnumberofsteps,resultinginareproduciblemethodology.Manyofthecurrentsamplepreparationchallengesareaddressedbysolid-phasemicroextraction(SPME),whichwasspecifically
