3、oosenewmaterials,andtodevelopnewtechnologies,newprinciplesofslopetreatmentmethods,andnewsystems.Ontheotherhand,slopeworksisalsoacostlyconstructionactivity.Weshouldtryeveryefforttoincreasethereturnoftheworks,beittangibleorintangible.Thisisparticularlyso,a
4、swearedealingwithlessriskyslopestodayafterovertwodecadesofveryintensivetreatmentofHongKongslopes.Assuch,weshouldpromotethegenerationofinnovativeideastoturnslopesintoasset,inadditiontomaintainingstabilityofslopes.Examplesareslopeadvertisement,solarenergyp
5、anels,grassskiing,ECOtrails,rockcarving,slopefarming,etc.Manyoftheideascangeneraterevenueandemployment,createrecreationalvalues,improveenvironment,promotetechnologyandboosttourism.Thispaperattemptstodiscusshowsustainabilityofslopeworksisviewedandhowitimp
6、actsthebuiltenvironment.Italsolooksatissuessurroundingandenhancingthesustainablevaluesofslopeworks,whichcouldbeimplementedintheplanning,design,constructionandmaintenanceofslopes.Whereverapplicable,theprinciplesarealsoillustratedwithcasehistories.INTRODUC
