3、mes.Theseconversationsareanalysedthroughtheforegroundingofaudienceactionproblemsandaccounts.Itemergesthattheinitiationofsafesextalkraisesquestionsaboutthetalker’spast,theanswerstowhichcanunderminetrustbetweenpartners.Thislossoftrust,however,hasdifferentmeaningswhenappliedtomenandwomen.Foraman,its

4、implymeansthathecannolongertobetrustedtobediscreet,whileforawomanitmeansthatsheisnolongerconsideredatrustworthy,orlow-risk,partner.Itisconcludedthateffectivesafesexadviceneedstotakeintoaccountsuchlocal,commonsenseunderstandingsinordertobridgethegapbetweenthe`lived’andthe`intellectual’ideologiesof

5、safesextalk.IntroductionThispaperaddressesissuessurroundingsexualnegotiationbetweenyoungmenandwomen.Specifically,itfocusesontheassumptionsinformingtwocommonlyperceivedrisksassociatedwithdiscussingAIDS-relatedtopicswithasexualpartner:arousingsuspicionandviolatingtrust.Theaimistoinvestigatethetensi

6、onsthatexistbetweenyoungadults’understandingsof`official’safesexadviceandtheircommonsenseunderstandingsofsafesexpractises.Thewaysinwhichthesetensionsarenegotiatedareexplored,andsomecommonsenseimpedimentstoputtingsafesexadviceintopractiseareidentified.Sinceithasbeenfoundthatyoungadultsgainmuchofth
