3、ally.Weeval-uateourapproachquantitativelyagainsttheaforementionedinpaintingmethodsandshowthatourextensionsmeasurablyincreasetheinpaint-ingquality.1IntroductionThedigitalnatureofmostimagesthatareusedtoday,makeitfairlyeasytoaltertheimagecontentusingimage

4、processingtools.Theremovalofentireobjectsfromimages,however,isaverycomplicatedtaskthatusuallyrequirestheexpertiseofprofessionalstoachievesufficientresultsinthealteredimage.Itis,therefore,anevengreaterchallengetoautomatethisprocesssuchthattheresultsareper

5、ceivedasun-altered.Ourneedforinpaintingcamefromaprojectthatrequiredremovalofobjects,acolourcheckerinparticular,fromaseriesofhighlystructuredimages.Fig.1showsanexamplefromthetestset.Inaninitialprocessingstep,thecolourcheckerislocatedintheimageandabinary

6、maskisgeneratedidentifyingthepixelsbelongingtothisobject.Itisthenremovedusingimageinpainting.WeproposeamodifiedapproachforimageinpaintingbasedonanapproachdescribedbyIgn´acioetal.[1]usingwaveletcoefficientstodeterminetheorderinwhichtheunknownregionisfilled.
