2、012.Abstract:Atthemomentthereisnosystemtoevaluateclimatesuitabilityforoilpalmcultivation.MostoflandevaluationsystemsinPeninsularMalaysiaoftenoverlookedclimateasnotimportantontheassumptionthattheeffectofclimaticfactorsonoilpalmyieldaresmall.Thesystemtoevaluateclimatesuitabilitywaspropo
3、sedanditfollowstheFAOFrameworkforLandEvaluationbutemploysaparametricapproachusingclimaticdatawhichareeasilyavailable.Theclimaticcriteriausedaremeanannualtemperature,13meandailymaximumtemperature,meandailyminimumtemperature,meanannualrainfall,lengthofdryseason,amountofsunshineandmeanan
4、nualrelativehumidity.TheevaluationofclimatewascarriedoutusinginformationfromninemeteorologicalstationsinPeninsularMalaysiaviz.AlorStar(Kedah),Ipoh(Perak),KualaLumpur,Malacca(Malacca),Kluang(Johore),Senai(Johore),Kuantan(Pahang),KualaKrai(Kelantan)andTanahMerah(Kelantan).Theresultsfora
5、ctualsuitabilityclassificationshowedthateightofthestationsarehighlysuitable(S1)foroilpalmcultivationwithlandindicesrangingfrom75to93.OnestationAlorStarismoderatelysuitable(S2y)duetodryseason.Theresultsforpotentialsuitabilityclassificationshowedthatallthestationsarehighlysuitableforoil
