3、gthe2004Mahlerconductingcompetition.However,whatmaybelesscommonknowledgeisthatthisrecentOctober,theLosAngelesPhilharmonic,aspartoftheirintroductionoftheVenezuelanwunderkind,recentlyhostedamusiceducationsymposium,youthorchestrafestival,andseriesofconcer
4、ts.BesideslaunchingDudamelasSalonen’ssuccessor,thiswasalsoaninitialsteptowardintroducingaprogramsimilartoVenezuela’sintotheLosAngelesarea.Thisisnotthefirsttimethatleadersandeducatorshaveapproachedthesubjectofmusiceducationasaninstrumentforsocialchange,
5、butthecircumstancesmayberightinthistimeandplace,asthereisgreatinterest,energy,emotion,andmoneypoisedtoactandinvest,andwe,asmusiceducatorsandinterestedparties,shouldinvolveourselvespositivelysothatnoneoftheseresourcesarewasted.Itistimetomakethingshappen
6、foryoungpeopleinCalifornia.CongratulationstotheLAPhilharmonicfortakingtheinitialstepofbringingtogetherattheirsymposiumpeoplewhodonotalwaysworktogether,andbravoforbringingusDudamel.WhyLookat“ElSistema”forLA?WhatisthisVenezuelanorchestrasystem,andwhathas
