1、China’sForestryEyesSustainableDevelopmentChina’sforestryhasmaintainedsustainabledevelopment,providingsoundecologicalguaranteeandmaterialbaseforsustainablesocio-economicdevelopment,saidanofficialatapressconferenceinBeijingonJune4.“Chinaplaysanimportantroleintheglobalcourseofsustainablefore
2、strydevelopment.SincetheUnitedNationsConferenceonEnvironmentalDevelopment(UNCED)in1992,China’sforestryhasbeendevelopingrapidly,”saidYinHong,deputyadministratorofChinaStateForestryAdministration.Nowtheoutputsofresin,wood-basedpanels,bambooandrattanfurniture,andwoodflooringrankthefirstinthe
3、worldandforestecotourism;thewoodygrainandoilsectoraregrowingfast.Between1993and2011,thegrossoutputvalueoftheforestrysectorreachedRMB15.3trillion,withtheannualoutputvalueupfromRMB99.4billionin61993toRMB2.83trillionin2011,ora20percentgrowthannuallyonaverage.Duringthesameperiod,thetradevolum
4、eofforestproductsincreasedfrom$7.5billionto$116billion,whichmakesChinaamajorcountryforforestproductproduction,processingandtrade.Everyyeartheforestryindustrycreatesjobsformorethan45millionfarmers,accountingfor37.5%ofthesurplusruralworkforce,whichhaseffectivelypromotedtheregionaldevelopmen
5、tandfarmers’livelihoodintheruralareas.Theforestryecologyconstructionhascontributedtotheseachievements.Since1992,especiallyinthenewcentury,theChinesegovernmenthasincreasedfinancialsupportfortheforestrysector,whichamountstoRMB1trillion.Aseriesofnationalkeyecologicaldevelopmentprogramshavebe
6、enimplemented,suchastheNaturalForestProtectionProgram(NTPP)andtheConversionofSlopeFarmlandtoForestProgram(CCSFP).ThegovernmentalsocarriesouttheNationalVoluntaryTreePlantingCampaign,andenhancesforest6resourcemanagementandbiodiversityprotection.Despitethecontinuousdownturnoftheglobalforestr
7、esources,Chinahasachievedincreasesofitsforestcoverandthestockingvolume:theforestedareahasincreasedfrom134millionhectaresin1992tothecurrent195millionhectares,theforestcoverfrom13.92percentto20.36percent,theforeststockingvolumefrom10.1billioncubicmetersto13.7billioncu
