3、givethembothfunctionandmeaning.Childrenoftenaskforthemeaningofae,andthendiscoverthatitofthelanguageisappropriateoracceptable.Inanarroeansthesituationalcontext.InHalliday’sopinion,thesituationalcontextsincludethesetting,theesdividesitintoeightelements:setting,role,function,not

4、ion,style,stressandintonation,grammar,vocabularyandlanguageaids.Thosefactorsaffecteachotheranddecideisappropriate.Thesituationalcontextandsocioculturalcontextcan’tbeisolatedfromeachother.Incertainsocioculturalcontext,peoplemustobeytheparticularmunicativerulesunicationrulesbut

5、alsoadjustthemselvesaccordingtothefactorsofthesituationalcontext.Thatis,thesituationalcontextandsocioculturalcontextaffecteachotherandareplementarytoeachother.Ⅱ.Thelanguagecontextandthemunicativepetence“petence”isacentralissueinlinguistics,sofabstractsyntactictheory(asChomsky
